सेनायाः प्रयोजनम् 

सत्यगुप्तः कलिङ्गराज्यस्य राजा भवति।  तस्य पुत्रः कमलापीडः अधिकं पठति। अतः सः बहुन् विषयान् जानाति। सः गर्वी च भवति। सत्यगुप्तः देशरक्षणार्थं महतीं सेनां निर्माति। पुत्रः कमलापीडः पितरं पृच्छति, किमर्थं भवान् महतीं सेनां पालयति? एतेन् किं प्रयोजनं ? इति। 

सत्यगुप्तः उत्तरं यच्छति, पुत्र! सेनायाः प्रयोजनम् इदानीम् त्वं न अवगच्छसि। युद्धकाले इयं सेना उपकरोति इति। 

कमलापीडः वदति, तर्हि युद्धकाले धनं दद्म चेत् अन्नक्षेपणेन् काकाः यथा आगच्छन्ति तथा बहवः जनाः आगच्छन्ति। किमर्थं भवान् इदानीमेव सेनां रक्षति? इति। 

कुपितः सत्यगुप्तः रात्रौ कमलापीडं बहिः नयति। तत्र अन्नं क्षिपति। क्षिप्ता पुत्रं आदिशति इदानीं काकान् आह्वय इति। पुत्रः पृच्छति, हे पितः! रात्रौ काकान् आह्वयामि चेत् कथं काकाः आगच्छन्ति? इति।  

पिता वदति एवमेव युद्धकाले धनं दद्मः चेत  अपि जनाः न आगच्छन्ति। अतः एव अहम् इदानीम् आरभ्य सेनां सज्जीकरोमि इति।   

The Purpose of armies

Satyagupta is the king of the Kalinga kingdom. His Sons was Kamalapida. Kamalapida studies too much. So he knows a lots of things. He is also proud. Satyagupta Builds a big army for the protection of the country. Kamalapida asks his father, 'why do you have to keep a big army? What is the purpose of this?

Satyagupta replies, "dear son, you will not understand the use of an army now. Only in times of war you will appreciate the army."

Kamalapida says, ''If there is a war, for the sake of food, many people will come like crows. So, do you have to maintain an army like this?"

An angry Satyaputra calls Kamalapida at night and takes him outside. He throws food outside and asks him to call the crows to eat. The son asks him back, "O father! If you call at night how will the crows come?

The father replies, "In the same way, in times of war, even if you give money, people will not come. That is why have to develop the army now itself."

सेनाओं का उद्देश्य

सत्यगुप्त कलिंग साम्राज्य के राजा हैं। उनके पुत्र कमलापिडा थे। कमलापीडा बहुत ज्यादा पढ़ाई करता है। इसलिए वह बहुत सी बातें जानता है। उन्हें भी गर्व है।  सत्यगुप्त ने देश की रक्षा के लिए एक बड़ी सेना का निर्माण किया। कमलापिडा ने अपने पिता से पूछा, 'आपको इतनी बड़ी सेना क्यों रखनी है? इसका उद्देश्य क्या है?

सत्यगुप्त ने उत्तर दिया, "प्रिय पुत्र, अब तुम सेना के उपयोग को नहीं समझोगे। केवल युद्ध के समय ही तुम सेना की सराहना करोगे।"

कमलापीडा कहते हैं, ''अगर युद्ध हुआ तो खाने की खातिर बहुत से लोग कौवों की तरह आएंगे। तो, क्या आपको इस तरह एक सेना रखनी होगी?"

क्रोधित सत्यपुत्र रात में कमलापीड को बुलाता है और उसे बाहर ले जाता है। वह खाना बाहर फेंक देता है और कौवों को खाने के लिए बुलाने को कहता है। बेटा उनसे पूछता है, "हे पिताजी! आप रात को बुलाएंगे तो कौवे कैसे आएंगे?"

पिता जवाब देते हैं, "उसी तरह युद्ध के समय अगर आप पैसे भी देंगे तो भी लोग नहीं आएंगे।  इसलिए अभी से ही सेना विकसित करनी होगी"
