Subhashitani

1.Sahasā Vidadhīta Na Kriyāmavivekaḥ Paramāpadāṁ Padaṁ.

Vriṇate Hi VimriśyaKāriṇaṁ Guṇalubdhāḥ Svayameva Saṁpodaḥ.

Translation- Do not do any work suddenly (feeling impatient) because discretion is the home of the worst plagues. (On the contrary) a person who works thoughtfully; Mother Lakshmi, who is attracted by her qualities, chooses it herself.

2.Aalasyaṁ hi manusyanaṁ sharirastho mahan ripuh.

Nastyudyamasamo bandhuh kritva yaṁ navasidati

Translation-Laziness resides in human body is their biggest enemy. There is no other (our) friend like toil because the one who works is never unhappy.

3.Balavānapyaśaktoasou dhanavānpi nirdhanah

Śrutavānapi murkhoasou yo dharmavimukho janah

Translation- A person who is alienated from religion (duty), he (person) is unable to be strong, he is rich, he is poor and he is also foolish.

4.Chandanaṁ śitalaṁ loke,chandanādapi chandramāh

Chandrachandranayormodhye śitala sādhusaṁgati

Translation-

Sandal is considered cold in the world, but the moon is also colder than sandal.

Along with good friends, it is more cooling than both moon and sandal.

5. Astādaś puraṇeṣu Vyasasya Vachanadvayaṁ

paropakāraḥ Puṇyaya Pāpaya parapīḍanaṁ

Translation- Maharishi Ved Vyas has said two specific things in eighteen Puranas. Firstly, charity is virtuous and second - sin means giving sorrow to others.

6. Udyamena Hi Sidhyanti Karyani na Manorathaih.

Na Hi Suptasya Sinhasya Pravisanti Mukhe Mrigah.

Translation- Any work is accomplished by hard work, not just by thinking. Never, a deer comes into the mouth of a sleeping lion.

7.    Pranammya Shirsaa Vishnum Trailokyaadhipatim Prabhum. 

       Naanaa Shaastroddhrootam Vikshye Rajneeti Samuchchyam. 

Translation-I salute to the Lord of the three realms, Lord Vishnu, and now commence to describe the principles of the statecraft culled form various ancient books of knowledge.

8. Aayuh Karma Vittancha Viddyaa Nidhanmeva Cha.

Panchataani Hi Srijjyante Garbhasthasyaiv Dehinah.

Translation-Age, profession,financial status, level of education and death - these five basic parameters of human life are ordained when the being is in the embryonic form.

9.Ranka Karoti Raajaanam Rajaanam Rankmev Cha.

 Dhaninam Nirdhanam Chaiva NIrdhanam Dhaninam Vidhih.

It is one's fate that makes a beggar a king or a beggar; a rich man a pauper or a pauper rich.

10.Yathaa dhenu Sahastreshu Vattso Gachhati Maatram.

Tathaa Yachch Kritam Karma Kartaaramanugacchati.

Translation- Like a calf find the mother-cow even it  there be thousands of cows, so the consequence of an action searches its doer unerringly (i.e., one can't escape the consequence of an action do whatever one may.)

11.Dayahinam Nisphalam Syannasti Dharmastu Tatra Hi.

Ete Veda Avedah Stuh Daya Yatra  Na Vidyate.

 

   Translation-    Work done without mercy does not get any consequence, religion is not there in such work. Where there is no pity, Vedas also become Aveda.
