The person who serves scholars (pundits) by traveling in different places or countries, his intellect expands (development) in the same way as a drop of oil spreads after falling in water.

विभाति कायः करुणापराणां, परोपकारैर्न तु चन्दनेन।।

कुंडल पहन लेने से कानों की शोभा नहीं बढ़ती, अपितु ज्ञान की बातें सुनने से होती है। हाथ, कंगन धारण करने से सुन्दर नहीं होते, उनकी शोभा दान करने से बढ़ती हैं।  सज्जनों का शरीर भी चन्दन से नहीं अपितु परहित में किये गये कार्यों से शोभायमान होता हैं।

English Translation:

Wearing a coil does not enhance the beauty of the ears, but by listening to the words of knowledge. Hands are not beautiful by wearing bracelets, their beauty increases by donating. Even the body of the gentlemen is not adorned with sandalwood, but by the works done in charity.

Sahasā Vidadhīta Na Kriyāmavivekaḥ Pramāpadāṁ.

अचानक आवेश(जोश) में आ कर बिना सोचे समझे कोई कार्य नहीं करना चाहिए | क्योंकि विवेक हीनता सबसे बड़ी विपत्तियों का कारण होती है।  इसके विपरीत जो व्यक्ति सोच समझकर कार्य करता है, गुणों से आकृष्ट होने वाली माँ लक्ष्मी स्वयं ही उसका चुनाव कर लेती है।

One should not do any work without thinking due to sudden impulse. Because lack of conscience is the cause of greatest calamities. On the contrary, the person who acts thoughtfully, Maa Lakshmi, who is attracted by virtues, chooses him herself.

जिन मनुष्यों में न विद्या का निवास है, न मेहनत का भाव, न दान की इच्छा, और न ज्ञान का प्रभाव, न गुणों की अभिव्यक्ति और न धर्म पर चलने का संकल्प, वे मनुष्य नहीं, वे मनुष्य रूप में जानवर ही धरती पर विचरते हैं।

English Translation:

The human beings in whom there is neither the abode of knowledge, nor the spirit of labor, nor the desire for charity, nor the influence of knowledge, nor the manifestation of virtues, nor the resolve to follow religion, they are not human beings, they roam the earth in human form. Huh.

दयाहीनं निष्फलं स्यान्नास्ति धर्मस्तु तत्र हि ।

एते वेदा अवेदाः स्युर्दया यत्र न विद्यते ॥

Transliteration:

Dayāhīnaṁ Niṣfalaṁ Syānnāsti Dharmastu Tatra Hi.

Ete Vedā Avedāḥ Syurdayā Yatra Na Vidyate.

बिना दया के किये गए काम का कोई फल नहीं मिलता, ऐसे काम में धर्म नहीं होता| जहाँ दया नही होती वहां वेद भी अवेद बन जाते हैं। 

English Translation:

The work done without mercy yields no fruit, there is no religion in such work. Where there is no mercy, the Vedas also become Vedas.

अधमाः धनमिच्छन्ति धनं मानं च मध्यमाः !

उत्तमाः मानमिच्छन्ति मानो हि महताम् धनम्!!

Adhamāḥ Dhanamichchanti Dhanaṁ Mānaṁ Cha Madhyamāḥ!

निम्न कोटि के लोग सिर्फ धन की इच्छा रखते हैं, मध्यम कोटि का व्यक्ति धन और सम्मान दोनों की इच्छा रखता है, वहीँ एक उच्च कोटि के व्यक्ति के लिए सिर्फ सम्मान ही मायने रखता है, सम्मान धन से अधिक मूल्यवान है।

Kāryārthī Bhajate Lokaṁ Yavatkarya Na Siddhati!

Uttīrṇe Cha Pare Pāre Nōkāyaṁ Kiṁ Prayojanaṁ!

Hindi Translation:

जब तक काम पूरे नहीं होते हैं, तब तक लोग दूसरों की प्रशंसा करते हैं।  काम पूरा होने के बाद लोग दूसरे व्यक्ति को भूल जाते हैं| ठीक उसी तरह जैसे, नदी पार करने के बाद नाव का कोई उपयोग नहीं रह जाता है। 

English Translation:

People praise others until the tasks are completed. People forget the other person after the work is done. Just like, after crossing the river, the boat is of no use.

न चोरहार्य न राजहार्य न भ्रतृभाज्यं न च भारकारि !

व्यये कृते वर्धति एव नित्यं विद्याधनं सर्वधनप्रधानम्!!

Na Chorahārya Na Rājahārya Na Bhratr̥bhājyaṁ Na Cha Bhārakāri!

एक विद्वान और राजा की कभी कोई तुलना नहीं की जा सकती क्योंकि राजा तो केवल अपने राज्य में सम्मान पाता है वही एक विद्वान हर जगह सम्मान पाता है।

There can never be any comparison between a scholar and a king, because the king gets respect only in his kingdom, the same scholar gets respect everywhere.

अग्निना सिच्यमानोऽपि वृक्षो वृद्धिं न चाप्नुयात् ।

तथा सत्यं विना धर्मः पुष्टिं नायाति कर्हिचित् ॥

आग से सींचे गए पेड़ कभी बड़े नहीं होते, उसी प्रकार सत्य के बिना धर्म की स्थापना संभव नहीं है।

सुख चाहने वाले को विद्या कहाँ से, और विद्यार्थी को सुख कहाँ से, सुख की इच्छा रखने वाले को विद्या और विद्या की इच्छा रखने वाले को सुख का त्याग कर देना चाहिए।

From where should the seeker of happiness get knowledge, and from where the happiness of the student, knowledge of the desire for happiness and the desire of knowledge should give up happiness.
