Transliteration:
Ālasyaṁ Hi Manuṣyāṇāṁ Śarirastho Mahān Ripuḥ
Nāstyudyamasamo Bandhuḥ Kr̥tvā Yaṁ Nāvasīdati
The biggest enemy of a person is laziness. A person's hard work is his true friend. Because whenever a man works hard, he does not become sad and always remains happy.
उद्यमेन हि सिध्यन्ति कार्याणि न मनोरथैः।
न हि सुप्तस्य सिंहस्य प्रविशन्ति मुखे मृगा:।।
Transliteration:
Udyamena Hi Sidhyanti Kāryāṇi Na Manorathēḥ
Na HI Suptasya Siṅhasya Praviśanti Mukhe Mr̥gāḥ
A person's work is accomplished only by his hard work. His work is not accomplished just by wishing. Just as a deer does not come into the mouth of a sleeping lion on its own, the lion has to work hard for it.
अनादरो विलम्बश्च वै मुख्यम् निष्ठुर वचनम्।
पश्चतपश्च पञ्चापि दानस्य दूषणानि च।।
Transliteration:
Anādaro Vilambaścha Vē Mukhyaṁ Niṣthura Vachanaṁ
Paśchatapaścha Pañchāpi Dānasya Dūṣaṇāni Cha
Meaning (English):
Giving by insulting, turning away, giving with delay, giving by speaking harsh words and repenting after giving. All these five actions contaminate the donation.
वाणी रसवती यस्य, यस्य श्रमवती क्रिया।
लक्ष्मी: दानवती यस्य, सफलं तस्य जीवितं।।
Transliteration:
Vāṇī Rasavatī Yasya Yasya Śramavātī Kriyā
Lakhṣmīḥ Dānavatī Yasya, Safalaṁ Tasya Jīvitaṁ
Meaning (English):
The life of a person whose speech is sweet, whose work is full of hard work, whose money is used in charity, is successful.
यस्तु संचरते देशान् यस्तु सेवेत पण्डितान्।
तस्य विस्तारिता बुद्धिस्तैलबिन्दुरिवाम्भसि।।
Transliteration:
Yastu Saṅcharate Deśān Yastu Seveta Paṇḍitān
Tasya VIstāritā Buddhistēlabindurivānbhasi
Meaning (English):
श्रोत्रं श्रुतेनैव न कुंडलेन, दानेन पाणिर्न तु कंकणेन।
विभाति कायः करुणापराणां, परोपकारैर्न तु चन्दनेन।।
Transliteration:
Śrotraṁ Śrutenēva Na kuṅdalena, Dānena Pāṇirna Tu Kaṅkaṇena
Vibhāti Kāyaḥ Kuruṇāparāṇāṁ, Paropakārērna Tu Chandanena
Meaning (English):
Wearing ear rings does not enhance beauty, but listening to words of knowledge does. Beauty of hands is not achieved by wearing bracelets but by donating them. The body of a gentleman is also adorned not with sandalwood but with the deeds done for others.
अश्वस्य भूषणं वेगो मत्तं स्याद् गजभूषणं।
चातुर्यम् भूषणं नार्या उद्योगो नरभूषणं।।
Transliteration:
Aśvasya Bhūṣaṇaṁ Vego Mattaṁ Syād Gajabhūṣaṇaṁ
Chāturyaṁ Bhūṣaṇaṁ Nāryā Udyogo Narabhūṣaṇaṁ
Meaning (English):
The beauty of a horse is due to its speed and the beauty of an elephant is due to its intoxicating gait. The beauty of women is due to their efficiency in various tasks and the beauty of men is due to their industriousness.

यथा ह्येकेन चक्रेण न रथस्य गतिर्भवेत्।
एवं परुषकारेण विना दैवं न सिद्ध्यति।।
Transliteration:
Yathā Hyekena Chakreṇa Na Rathasya Gatirbhavet
Evaṁ Pruṣakāreṇa Vinā Vēvaṁ Na Siddhyati
Meaning (English):
Just like a chariot cannot move with one wheel. In the same way, luck cannot be achieved without effort.
प्रियवाक्य प्रदानेन् सर्वे तुष्यन्ति जन्तवः।
तस्मात् तदैव वक्तव्यम् वचने का दरिद्रता।।
Transliteration:
Priyavākya Pradānena Sarve Tuṣyanti Jantavaḥ
Tasmāt Tadēva Vaktavyaṁ Vachane Kā Daridratā
All living beings are satisfied by speaking loving words, hence only loving words should be spoken. What kind of stinginess is there in speaking such words?
