Swami Vivekananda was born in Calcutta on 12th January, 1863. His father Viswanath Dutta was an attorney at Calcutta High Court. His mother name Bhubaneswari devi was a pious lady. From his school life Narendranath (Swami Vivekananda) was a meritorious student. He passed the matriculation Examination in 1879. Narendranath passed F. A. Examination in 1881 and he passed B.A. Examination in 1884 from the Scottish Church College. From Narendranatha student life he had a great curiosity for knowing God. He came in contact with Sri Ramakrishna, the great religious teacher, in 1886. He became a disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. He was known as Swami Vivekananda. He set out touring all over India. The misery and illiteracy of the mass touched him much. Swami Vivekananda attended the Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. Swami Vivekananda delivered a speech upholding the greatness of Hindu Religion. After his tour in Europe, he came back to India and established "Ramakrishna Mission" and "Belur Math". Swami Vivekananda passed away on July 4, 1902.
