Father of Indian Medical Science : Maharshi Sushruta -

Today we will learn about Sushruta, a great physician and the father of ancient medicine, the father of plastic surgery. We find evidence of the development of medical science in ancient India in various ways, such as from the Atharva Veda, from the Ramayana, from the Mahabharata, from the Charak Samhita, where we can see how prosperous our India was at that time. Everything that has been discovered so far in the world today has shown a new direction in science, but we can say that it is nothing compared to the ancient times. But the sad thing is that all the information about ancient medical science and Ayurveda in the course of time is not so clear today. It seems to be lost somewhere in the middle of time. But what we get about this now is little.

The book written by Sushruta is called Sushruta Sanhita. It is mainly written in Sanskrit. He was an ancient physician. According to the Mahabharata, he was the son of Bishwamitra. His birth date is approximately 5th-6th century BC. Sushruta received his knowledge of medicine from Vaidyaraj Dhanvantari. According to Hindu scriptures, Dhanvantari is said to be the doctor of the gods. It is also heard that Sushruta acquired the knowledge of medical science from Vaidyaraj Dhanvantari on the banks of the river Ganga in the city of Kashi. We find Sushruta not only in Indian texts but also in the Boer Pandu script of China. It is one of the preserved ancient texts of Ayurveda. His books have been acclaimed all over the world.

The Sushruta Sanhita includes ancient Ayurvedic medical practices, rules and medicines for curing all kinds of diseases, and the use of various herbs. He invented 120 and more surgical instruments. In this book he talks about many complex diseases and treatments. Maharishi Sushruta is said to be the father of plastic surgery, although Harold Gilius is credited with the invention of plastic surgery in Western history. Harold Gilius performed the successful surgery in 1917, but Maharshi Sushruta at least discovered it 2,600 years ago. The Sushruta Sanhita describes various other types of surgery including nose, ear, lip etc. To enhance the beauty of the face, he used to replace it with flesh or skin in one place. Not only this, with the help of brain surgery you can do wonders.

SURGICAL EQUIPMENT

Either that or everyone can say why our medical science in India is not able to apply it even now despite having so many references in our ancient medical science, because it is that most of the medicinal plants mentioned in the Sushruta Sanhita at present are now in Extinct. Apart from that, there are many reasons like our country has been plundered by the outside world for a long time and the life of 200 years of slavery is considered as a big reason.
                  PLASTIC SURGERY

Maharshi Sushruta used to come to him from different places to learn medical science. They were called Sushrutas. And those who came to study with him had to study for at least 7-8 years. Then vegetables, dead bodies, animals etc. were given to them for their habit. After becoming proficient, they were allowed to perform any type of surgery.
