"लोकयात्रा भयं लज्जा दाक्षिण्यं त्यागशीलता। 

पञ्च यत्र न विद्यन्ते न कुर्यात्तत्र संगतिम् ॥"

Lokayātrā Bhayaṁ Lajjā Dākṣiṇyaṁ Tyāgaśīlatā

Pañcha Yantra Na Vidyante Na Kuryāttatra Saṅgatiṁ

जिस स्थान पर आजीविका न मिले, लोगों में भय, और लज्जा, उदारता तथा दान देने की प्रवृत्ति न हो, ऐसी पांच जगहों को भी मनुष्य को अपने निवास के लिए नहीं चुनना चाहिए ।

"संयोजयति विद्यैव नीचगापि नरं सरित् । 

समुद्रमिव दुर्धर्षं नृपं भाग्यमतः परम्॥"

Transliteration:

Saṅyojayati Vidyēva Nīchagāpi Naraṁ Sarit

Samudramiva Durdharṣaṁ Nr̥paṁ Bhāgyamataḥ Paraṁ

Hindi Translation:

जिस प्रकार नीचे की ओर बहती नदी अपने साथ तृण आदि जैसे तुच्छ पदार्थों को समुद्र से जा मिलाती है, ठीक वैसे ही विद्या ही अधम मनुष्य को राजा से मिलाती है और उससे ही उसका भाग्योदय होता है ।

English Translation:

Just as a down-flowing river mixes with it insignificant things like grass, etc., with the sea, similarly, knowledge connects a lowly man with a king, and that is how his fortune rises.

 Hindi Translation:

शस्त्र-विद्या एवं शास्त्र-विद्या यानी ज्ञानार्जन, दोनों ही मनुष्य को सम्मान दिलवाती हैं । किंतु वृद्धावस्था प्राप्त होने पर इनमें से प्रथम यानी शास्त्र-विद्या उसे उपहास का पात्र बना देती है, जब उस विद्या का प्रदर्शन करने की उसकी शारीरिक क्षमता समाप्तप्राय हो जाती है । लेकिन शास्त्र-ज्ञान सदा ही उसे आदर का पात्र बनाये रखती है ।

Arms-Vidya and Shastra-Vidya i.e. acquisition of knowledge, both bring respect to man. But on attaining old age, the first of these, that is, the science of science, makes him an object of ridicule, when his physical capacity to perform that knowledge is almost exhausted. English Translation:

A wise man should think of acquiring knowledge and wealth as if he was free from old age and death. But at the same time he should also conduct dharma as if Kaal is sitting by his hair and can lift him up from the world at any time.

"सर्वद्रव्येषु विद्यैव द्रव्यमाहुरनुत्तमम् । 

अहार्यत्वादनर्घत्वादक्षयत्वाच्च सर्वदा॥"

Sarvadravyeṣu Vidyēva Dravyamāhuranuttamaṁ

विद्वान् लोग कभी न चुराये जाने, अनमोल होने तथा कभी क्षय न होने के कारणों से सभी द्रव्यों, यानी सुख-संपदा-संतुष्टि के आधारों, में से विद्या को ही सर्वोत्तम होने की बात करते हैं ।

English Translation:

Scholars speak of learning as being the best among all substances, that is, the basis of happiness-wealth-satisfaction, for the reasons that they are never stolen, precious and never decayed.

"ईशावास्यमिदं सर्वं यत्किञ्च जगत्यां जगत् । 

तेन त्यक्तेन भुञ्जीथा मा गृधः कस्यस्विद्धनम् ॥"

जड़-चेतन प्राणियों वाली यह समस्त सृष्टि परमात्मा से व्याप्त है । मनुष्य इसके पदार्थों का आवश्यकतानुसार भोग करे, परंतु ‘यह सब मेरा नहीं है के भाव के साथ’ उनका संग्रह न करे ।

English Translation:

This entire creation consisting of inanimate beings is pervaded by the Supreme Soul. One should enjoy its substances as per the requirement, but do not store them with the feeling of 'all this is not mine'.

जो कार्य कल किया जाना है उसे पुरुष आज ही संपन्न कर ले, और जो अपराह्न में किया जाना हो उसे पूर्वाह्न में पूरा कर ले, क्योंकि मृत्यु किसी के लिए प्रतीक्षा नहीं करती है, भले ही कार्य संपन्न कर लिया गया हो या नहीं ।

English Translation:

The work which has to be done tomorrow should be done by a man today, and that which has to be done in the afternoon, should be done in the forenoon, because death waits for no one, whether the work has been done or not.
