आत्मछिद्रं न जानाति परच्छिद्राणि पश्यति।
स्वच्छिद्रं यदि जानाति परच्छिद्रं न पश्यति।।
Transliteration-
Ātmachhidraṁ Na Jānāti Parachchhidrāṇi Paśyati.
Svachchidraṁ Yadi Jānāti Parachchidraṁ Na Paśyati.
English Translation-
A person who doesn't know the defects (holes in the character) of his/her own, is eager to know the defects of others. But, a person who knows the defects of his/her own (tries to correct his/her own defects), will never care about other's defects.

Transliteration-
Āropyate Śilā Śaile Yatnen Mahatā Tathā.
Paṭhyante Tu Kṣanenadhastathātmā Guṇa Doṣayoḥ.
English Translation-
Mighty effort is needed to carry a big rock to the top of the mountain, but to get it down, the effort needed is comparatively very less(sometimes just push is good enough). Similarly, it really hard to build a good character by performing many good virtues, but one very small bad quality can spoil his/her entire character.

Transliteration-
Aguṇasya Hataṁ Rūpaṁ Aśīlasya Hataṁ Kulaṁ.
Asiddhestu Hatā Vidyā Abhogasya Hataṁ Dhanaṁ.
English Translation-
Beauty is spoiled, if one has no good qualities. Good name of the family is lost, due to a family member with bad character, If not well practiced, knowledge in a human brain is lost. If not used for good deeds wealth is considered as lost.

The following three are the characteristics of a wicked person: lotus like face, speech as cool as sandal wood and a heart filled with burning fire of evil thoughts.

English Translation-
Ambrosia should be obtained even from poison : gold must be taken even if it lies in filth; knowledge has to be received even from a person of lower social status; a woman of beauty and character should be accepted even if she is from a fallen family.

English Translation-
Knowledge gives good character to a person. Good character gives reputation and position in the society. Reputation and position in the society gives money, by using this money for good deeds, one attains the ultimate happiness.
