क्षणशः कणशश्चैव विद्यामर्थं च चिन्तयेत्। 

क्षनत्यागे कुतो विद्या कणत्यागे कुतो धनम्।।

Transliteration-

Kṣaṇaśaḥ Kaṇaśaśchaiva Vidyāmarthaṁ Ca Chintayet.

Kṣanatyāge Kuto Vidyā Kaṇatyāge Kuto Dhanaṁ.

English Translation-

While pursuing education, a student should utilize every single minute of his time, and while pursing to acquire wealth, an entrepreneur should take care of even the smallest unit of money, By sacrificing valuable time, a student will not be able to become a scholar, and by sacrificing small sums of money, an entrepreneur will not be able to acquire wealth.

Transliteration-

Satrorapi Guṇā Vāchyā Doṣā Vāchyā Gurorapi.

Sarvada Sarvayatnena Putre  Śiṣyavadācharet.

English Translation-

कामं  क्रोधं तथा लोथं स्वादु श्रृंगार कौतुके। 

अतिनिद्राSतिसेवां च विद्यार्थी ह्यष्ट वर्जयेत्।।

Transliteration-

Kāmaṁ Krodhaṁ Tathā Lothaṁ Svadu Śr̥ngāra Kautuke.

Atinidrātisevāṁ Cha VIdyārthi Hyaṣṭa Varjatet.

English Translation-

Desire, anger, avarice, taste, eroticism, vehemence, too much sleep and overly tending these 8 should be shunned by a student.

Sanskrit Slokas

काकदृष्टिर्बकध्यानं श्वाननिद्रा तथैव च। 

अल्पाहारं जीर्णवस्त्रं एतद्विद्यार्थीलक्षणम्।।

Transliteration-

Kākadr̥ṣṭirbakadhyānaṁ Śvānanidrā Tathaiva Cha.

Alpāhāraṁ Jīrṇavastraṁ Etadvidyarthilakṣaṇaṁ.

English Translation-

The following are the qualities of a student: eye sight similar to that of a crow, concentration and patience similar to that of a crane, light sleep similar to that of a dog, consuming small quantity of food and simple cloths.

Sanskrit Slokas

यथा खनन खनित्रेण नरो वार्यधिगच्छति। 

तथा गुरुगताम् विद्यां शुश्रूषुरधिगच्छति।।

Transliteration-

Yathā Khanana Khanitreṇa Naro Vāryodhigachchati.

Tathā Gurugatāṁ Vidyāṁ Śuśruṣuradhigachchati.

English Translation-

The deeper one digs the earth, the more water he/she gets from the bottom of the earth. Similarly the more a student serves the master and queries, the more he/she attains knowledge.

रविसन्निधिमात्रेण सूर्यकान्तं प्रकाशयेत्। 

गुरुसन्निधिमात्रेण शिष्यज्ञानं प्रकाशयेत्।।

Transliteration-

Ravisannidhimātreṇa Sūryakāntaṁ Prakāśayet.

Gurusannidhimātreṇa Śiṣyagyānaṁ Prakāśayet.

English Translation-

A precious stone shines by emitting the light given by the sun. In the same manner, a person shines by emitting the knowledge given by the teacher.

ज्येष्ठ भ्राता पिता वापि यश्च विद्यां प्रयच्छति। 

त्रयो वै पितरो ज्ञेयाः धर्मे च पथि वर्तिनः।।

Transliteration-

Jyeṣṭha Bhrātā Pitā Vāpi Yaścha Vidyāṁ Prayachchati.

Trayo Vai Pitaro Gyeyaḥ Dharma Cha Pathi Vartinaḥ.

English Translation-

One's elder brother, father and the teacher who gives knowledge- all these three, treading the path of Dharma, are to be considered as one's father.
